Nationwide is the UK's largest building society and a major residential mortgage lender. If Nationwide or your conveyancer has asked you to get independent legal advice, usually for an occupier's consent form, a gifted deposit or a family-supported mortgage, we can arrange it by video, often the same day.

Thanks, we'll be in touch
A member of our team will contact you as soon as possible.
We're currently experiencing a high level of demand, so wait times are an estimated 24–48 hours.
Nationwide lends mainly to homeowners, so the advice we give is almost always about a home purchase, remortgage or transfer of equity. The most common situations are adults who live in the property but aren’t borrowers, family members contributing money, and changes of ownership between partners.
Your solicitor explains what the document means for you, checks whether you’ve contributed money to the property, and makes sure the decision is yours. If you go ahead, they sign the certificate and send it to the conveyancer handling the mortgage.
Occupier's consent
Adults living in a mortgaged property who aren't borrowers.
Gifted deposits
Family members giving money towards a purchase.
Transfer of equity
Adding or removing someone from the ownership of a mortgaged home, where advice is required.
Family support for a mortgage
Relatives supporting a buyer, where the lender asks for advice.

Speak to your solicitor
An SRA-regulated solicitor explains the risks in plain English, by video or in person in London.
Certificate sent to your lender
Your signed ILA certificate and documents are dispatched, usually the same day.
Usually an occupier's consent form, confirming the mortgage comes before any right you have to live there. If you've contributed money, speak to a solicitor about protecting your share first.
If Nationwide has given you a certificate or form for the solicitor to sign, use it. Send it to us before your appointment so your solicitor can complete it in the right wording.
Many lenders now accept video advice, but requirements change and can differ between products. Check Nationwide's instructions, or ask your broker. If a face-to-face meeting is needed, we can arrange one in London.
No. My Online Lawyer is independent of Nationwide. We connect you with an SRA-regulated solicitor who acts only for you.
My Online Lawyer is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for Nationwide. We use the name only to describe documents our clients have been asked to sign. Always follow your lender’s own instructions, and check its requirements with your broker or the lender if you’re unsure.
