HSBC UK lends to homeowners and businesses. If HSBC has asked you to take independent legal advice before signing a guarantee, a legal charge, an occupier's consent or a joint mortgage, an SRA-regulated solicitor can advise you by video and send the certificate to HSBC, often the same day.

Most of the HSBC matters we see fall into two groups. Business customers: directors and shareholders guaranteeing company facilities, sometimes with a charge over a home. Mortgage customers: family members supporting a purchase, and adults who live in a property and must sign an occupier’s consent form.
HSBC also lends to customers with international connections, so we often help clients who are overseas or who have family abroad. Advice can usually be given by video, and we can explain any extra steps if documents need to be signed or certified abroad.
Your solicitor reviews the HSBC documents, explains them privately, and checks the decision is yours. If you go ahead, they complete HSBC’s certificate and arrange signing.

An SRA-regulated solicitor explains the risks in plain English, by video or in person in London.
Certificate sent to your lender
Your signed ILA certificate and documents are dispatched, usually the same day.
Usually, yes. Advice can often be given by video. Some documents may need to be witnessed, notarised or sent as originals, and your solicitor will explain what's needed.
If HSBC has given you a certificate or form for the solicitor to sign, use it. Send it to us before your appointment so your solicitor can complete it in the right wording.
Many lenders now accept video advice, but requirements change and can differ between products. Check HSBC's instructions, or ask your broker. If a face-to-face meeting is needed, we can arrange one in London.
No. My Online Lawyer is independent of HSBC. We connect you with an SRA-regulated solicitor who acts only for you.
My Online Lawyer is not affiliated with, endorsed by or acting for HSBC. We use the name only to describe documents our clients have been asked to sign. Always follow your lender’s own instructions, and check its requirements with your broker or the lender if you’re unsure.
